Description

The Sampari class, also designated as KCR-60M (Kapal Cepat Rudal-60 Meter), consists of fast attack craft designed and constructed by PT PAL Indonesia in Surabaya for the Indonesian Navy. Hull construction utilizes a combination of aluminum and high-tensile steel sourced from PT Krakatau Steel. The class was developed as a successor to the Clurit class, with 18 vessels planned and six currently in active service.

Initial Batch-I vessels faced design limitations, including a radar cross section susceptible to detection and electromagnetic interference between communication antennas. These ships originally lacked fin stabilizers, impacting maneuverability in high sea states. Early propulsion configurations featuring MTU 16V 4000 M73 engines were found to be underpowered and prone to overheating; these were subsequently replaced with MTU 20V 4000 M73 units. Batch-II and Batch-III designs incorporated recommendations from BPPT Indonesia to improve hull stability and compartment arrangements. A modified variant by PT Palindo Marine in Batam commenced construction with a keel laying on June 12, 2024.

Equipment and armament configurations differ between hulls. KRI Sampari (628) and KRI Tombak (629) are equipped with the H/ZKT-series Combat Management System, SR-47AG search radar, and TR-47C fire control radar. Their armament includes four C-705 surface-to-surface missiles, a Burevestnik 57mm AU-220M naval mount, and an NG-18 CIWS at the stern. The remaining vessels in the class utilize the Terma C-Flex Combat Management System, SCANTER 4603 X-Band radar, and C-Fire electro-optical fire control. These hulls are armed with four Exocet MM40 Block III missiles and a Bofors 57mm Mk.3 main gun. All units carry two Yugoimport-SDPR M71/08 20mm cannons. Due to early budget constraints, several ships initially carried Bofors 40mm L/70 guns salvaged from decommissioned vessels before being refitted with 57mm systems.

The first three vessels, KRI Sampari, KRI Tombak, and KRI Halasan, were commissioned in 2014. KRI Kerambit entered service in 2019. The two most recent vessels, KRI Kapak and KRI Panah, were commissioned on May 17, 2023.
