Description

The Solgae 631-class, designated as the Landing Ship Fast-II (LSF-II) during development, is a series of air-cushioned landing craft (LCAC) built by HJ Shipbuilding & Construction. Designed for the Republic of Korea Navy, these vessels are intended to operate from the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships.

The craft are designed to transport troops and heavy equipment, including main battle tanks or amphibious assault vehicles, to hostile beaches. The internal configuration includes a cockpit that accommodates the crew and a landing-force commander. For self-defense, the vessels are equipped with machine guns. Propulsion is provided by gas turbine engines, allowing the craft to navigate across water and ascend onto land gradients.

The class entered commission with the Republic of Korea Navy in 2007. Current naval requirements specify a total of eight units, with several vessels active and others in various stages of construction. The class takes its name from the lead ship, Solgae 631. In addition to domestic service, the design has been offered for export to foreign navies.
