A Malian Su-25 ground-attack aircraft crashed near Gao airport at about 9:30 a.m. on 4 October 2022, according to AFP as published by The Moscow Times. The Malian military said the jet was returning from a mission in support of the civilian population, and a later statement cited by Janes said there was no indication the crash was caused by hostile action. A pilot and a ground crew member were killed and ten people were injured, including two civilians, according to the military. A military official told AFP the pilot was Russian. The jet was among aircraft Russia delivered in August 2022.
