Vietnamese People's Air Force Su-22 Crash

A Vietnamese People's Air Force Su-22 crashed while attempting to land at Yên Bái in northern Vietnam during a training flight, and the pilot was killed. The defence ministry said the aircraft came down as it approached the base and that an investigation had been opened. Yên Bái hosts one of the regiments operating the type in the north of the country. The Su-22 is a swept-wing ground attack aircraft supplied by the Soviet Union and later modernised, and remains one of the most numerous combat types in Vietnamese service, flown for strike training and coastal patrol.
