Description
An Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jet, serial SB 175, crashed on a hilltop in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam on 5 March 2026 during a routine training sortie from Jorhat Air Base. The aircraft lost radar contact at approximately 7:42 pm local time and impacted terrain near Rangkhelan village in the Nilip block area, about 60 km from Jorhat. Both crew members, Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, were killed on impact. Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion and observed smoke rising from the hills. The IAF confirmed the loss the following day and ordered a Court of Inquiry.
