Description
A Russian Naval Aviation Ka-27PS search-and-rescue helicopter was destroyed by a Ukrainian FPV drone as it attempted to land on the Syvash offshore drilling platform in the Black Sea on 5 March 2026. The platform had been repurposed by Russian forces as a surveillance post, communications relay, and site for electronic warfare and short-range air defense systems used to control strike drones targeting the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions. The Ukrainian Navy, operating jointly with Special Operations Forces, used a combination of naval unmanned surface drones and aerial FPV drones in a nighttime strike on the installation. The Ka-27 crew reportedly survived. This was believed to be the first helicopter destroyed by a drone launched from a naval unmanned platform.
