Description
Chiayi Air Base is a Republic of China Air Force facility located in Chiayi County, Taiwan, where it is co-located with Chiayi Airport. Historically, the base hosted several United States Air Force units, including the 67th Fighter-Bomber Squadron during 1955 and the 310th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, which deployed to the base from Osan Air Base for air defense missions in March 1955. Between January 1955 and July 1968, the 51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing and 18th Tactical Fighter Wing conducted temporary task assignments at the base, with fighter aircraft rotating from Naha Air Base and Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
The base is currently operated by the Republic of China Air Force and serves as the station for the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing. This wing consists of the 21st Tactical Fighter Group, operating F-16V aircraft, and the 22nd and 23rd Tactical Fighter Groups, which operate F-16A/B Fighting Falcons. The facility also houses the Air Rescue Group, which operates Sikorsky S-70C, UH-60M, and EC225 Super Puma helicopters. On-site support units include the 4th Maintenance and Supply Group, the 4th Base Service Group, and the 4th Military Police Squadron.
