Description
Dzhankoi is a military air base located near Dzhankoi, Crimea. It was built in 1947. Prior to the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014, it served as a Ukrainian and Soviet military airfield, and subsequently as a civilian airport. In 1995, it was entered into the State Register of Civil Aerodromes of Ukraine and certified as an international airport in 1999. Currently, the air base is operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. As of October 2022, the 39th Guards Independent Helicopter Regiment, operating Kamov Ka-52 "Alligator", Mil Mi-8 AMTSh, Mil Mi-28N, and Mil Mi-35M helicopters, was stationed at the base under the 27th Composite Aviation Division. Satellite imagery from 2024 indicates that runway 05/23 has been extended to 2.50 km. On April 17, 2024, the air base was reportedly struck by missiles, resulting in multiple explosions. Subsequent satellite imagery from April 19 showed damage to S-300/S-400 components and other areas with scorch marks.
