Description
Guadalajara International Airport, officially Aeropuerto Internacional Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, is located in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, 17 kilometers southeast of Guadalajara. The facility was inaugurated on March 1, 1951, and underwent reconstruction in 1968 to accommodate wide-body aircraft. In 1973, the airport runways, taxiways, aprons, and control tower were renovated or newly constructed. A maintenance base was established in 1988 to service Boeing 727-200 and DC-10 aircraft. The airport transitioned to private management under Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) in 1999 following the 1995 Airports Law.
The airport is operated by GAP and hosts Air Force Station No. 1 (Estación Aérea Militar N.º 1). It is a hub for Volaris and Viva, and a focus city for Aeroméxico. The facility supports general aviation, flight training, and cargo operations.
Infrastructure includes a passenger terminal containing 43 gates across four concourses. Technical facilities consist of Air Force Station No. 1, maintenance bases for Volaris and Aeroméxico, and a Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) terminal. The airfield features a general aviation apron with multiple hangars and a cargo terminal with six positions for wide-body aircraft. Operational systems include high-intensity lighting, Visual Approach Slope Indicators (VASI), and Runway End Identifier Lights (REIL). The facility utilizes a segregated-use runway configuration to manage arrival and departure traffic.
