Description
Jodhpur Airport serves as a domestic airport and an Indian Air Force base in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. It is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and shares its airside with the Jodhpur Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. The airfield's origins trace back to the 1920s with the establishment of the Jodhpur Flying Club. It was utilized by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II and was subsequently upgraded in 1950 following the formation of the Royal Indian Air Force, which later became the Indian Air Force. Jodhpur was home to the IAF's Air Force Flying College until the 1965 war. The base was active during the Kargil War of 1999. Squadrons operating HAL Dhruv, Mikoyan MiG-27, Mil Mi-17, and Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft are based at Jodhpur Air Force Station. The 143 Helicopter Unit inducted HAL Prachand aircraft here on October 3, 2022. A battalion of the Garud Commando Force is also stationed at the base. The airport features a 2,743-meter long and 45-meter wide runway, equipped with night landing facilities, an Instrument Landing System (ILS), and navigational aids such as DVOR/DME and NDB. The civil enclave is undergoing expansion, with a new terminal building under construction, slated for completion by the end of 2025.
