Description
Manuel Márquez de León International Airport is located in La Paz, Baja California Sur, on the western shore of the Gulf of California. Operated by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico, the facility served as the headquarters for Aero California from 1960 until 2006.
The airport supports military operations for the Mexican Air Force and the Mexican Navy. Air Force Base No. 9 (BAM-9) is located west of the runway. This installation hosts Air Squadron 203, which operates Pilatus PC-7 Turbo Trainer aircraft. Infrastructure at BAM-9 includes an apron measuring 140 by 65 meters, two hangars, and personnel quarters.
La Paz Naval Air Base is situated north of BAM-9. It contains hangars, aircraft stands, and the School of Naval Aviation, which functions under the Center for Naval Aeronautical Studies. The naval base hosts the 2nd Patrol Naval Air Squadron, operating RC695 and Lancair IV-P aircraft, and the 2nd Air Mobility, Observation and Transport Naval Air Squadron, which operates Mi-8 helicopters. Other resident units include the 2nd Shipborne Patrol Naval Air Squadron, operating Bo 105CBS-5 helicopters, and the 2nd Transport Naval Air Squadron, operating An-32B aircraft.
General infrastructure includes a passenger terminal and a dedicated terminal for general and executive aviation. The main apron provides nine stands for narrow-body aircraft. The airport facilitates regional air traffic and connects the Baja California Peninsula with mainland locations in Sinaloa and Sonora.
