Description

Porto Velho Air Force Base, designated ALA6, is a facility of the Brazilian Air Force located in Porto Velho, Rondônia. The installation is situated 7 km from downtown Porto Velho and shares facilities with Governador Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport. Construction of the site began in 1969, and the base was commissioned on October 31, 1984.

The facility is owned and controlled by the Brazilian Air Force and serves as the station for several units, including the 2nd Squadron of the 3rd Aviation Group (2º/3ºGAv) "Grifo" and the 2nd Squadron of the 8th Aviation Group (2°/8°GAv) "Poti." The 5th Squadron of the 1st Communications and Control Group (5º/1ºGCC) "Zagal" is also located at the base.

Operational units at the base utilize the Embraer A-29A and B Super Tucano. The 2°/8°GAv previously operated the Mil AH-2 Sabre, with decommissioning and storage of these aircraft commencing in August 2022. The 5º/1ºGCC maintains radars and electronic equipment for air defense missions. Aircraft types formerly hosted at the base include the Embraer T-27 Tucano.
