Description

Pushkin Airport is an air base located 28 km south of Saint Petersburg in Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It is owned by the Ministry of Defence and operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces, controlled by the 6th Air and Air Defence Forces Army. The base also handles small airliners for civilian use. Historically, on April 15, 1946, the 405th Air Defence Fighter Aviation Regiment was relocated to the airfield from Warsaw on La-5 aircraft, becoming part of the 2nd Guards Fighter Aviation Corps before being disbanded on June 5, 1946. The base was home to the 147 OVZ RZB regiment, which operated Mil Mi-8 helicopters, and housed Ilyushin Il-18, Ilyushin Il-22, and Ilyushin Il-38 aircraft. Currently, the 332nd Guards Independent Helicopter Regiment is stationed at the base, operating Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. The 20th Aircraft Repair Plant (ARZ) is also based at the airfield. Since September 2012, the Red Banner Aviation Base of the Russian Air Force has been based at the airfield. A celebration for the 100th anniversary of the Russian Air Force was held here on August 11, 2012, featuring demonstrations of various aircraft and helicopters.
