Description

Skopje International Airport, also known as Petrovec Airport, is located near the capital of North Macedonia. Military aviation at the site began in 1912 with operations by Serbian military aviators. In 1915, during World War I, a military airport was established at the location for Bulgarian and German aviation units. In September 1918, the airfield was utilized by the 1st Section of the 73rd Squadron of the British Royal Army. Following the destruction of earlier facilities during World War II, the current airport was constructed near the Petrovec neighborhood. The facility operated under the name Skopje Alexander the Great Airport from 2006 until 2018.

Management of the facility is conducted by TAV Airports Holding under a 20-year concession initiated in 2008. The airport supports Macedonian Air Force operations, including Mil Mi-17 helicopters. Infrastructure developments completed in 2011 include a terminal building, a cargo building, and an administrative building. The airport hosts various aircraft types, including the Boeing 737-55S, Fokker 100, Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, and Socata TBM700N, as well as Antonov 12BK cargo aircraft.
