Description
Novosibirsk Tolmachevo Airport is an international airport located in the town of Ob, 16 kilometers west of the center of Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia. It operates as a dual-use facility, serving both civilian and military aviation. Operations at the airport commenced on July 12, 1957, with its first passenger flight. Initially owned by United Tolmachevo Aviation Enterprise and the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the USSR, it transitioned to a joint stock company in 1995. The airport has undergone several expansions and renovations, including a domestic terminal renovation in 2006 and the enlargement and merger of the former international terminal with the domestic terminal between 2014 and 2015. Construction for a new terminal began in 2020, with the first phase completed in 2022 and the second phase planned for completion by 2025, aiming for a total terminal area exceeding 100,000 square meters.
For its military functions, Tolmachevo Airport is home to the 337th Independent Helicopter Regiment, which operates Mil Mi-24 P and Mil Mi-8 AMTSh-V helicopters. Additionally, the Composite Aviation Squadron and the 32nd Independent Composite Transport Aviation Regiment are stationed here, with both units forming part of the 14th Air and Air Defence Forces Army.
