Description
The Fattah-1 is an Iranian hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile that was first announced in late 2022 and officially unveiled in mid-2023. Its development was presented as a significant generational leap in missile technology. A newer version of the weapon, designated Fattah-2, was subsequently revealed in late 2023.
Engineered as a solid-fueled system, the Fattah-1 is distinguished by its hypersonic velocity and high maneuverability. The missile is reportedly capable of operating both within and outside the Earth's atmosphere, an attribute designed to allow it to bypass and breach existing anti-missile defense systems. While designed to carry a conventional warhead, it has also been reported as having the potential capability to be armed with nuclear warheads, should Iran's nuclear program be further developed.
The missile is in service with the armed forces of Iran and has seen operational use. Its employment was reported during Iranian strikes against Israel in the autumn of 2024. Researchers have also claimed to have identified debris from the Fattah-1 missile system in the aftermath of strikes conducted against Israel in both April and October of 2024.
