Description

The Khordad 15 is an Iranian surface-to-air missile system unveiled on June 9, 2019. Its designation commemorates the 15 Khordad uprising, a series of 1963 demonstrations in Iran. The system was developed to counter aircraft, cruise missiles, and aerial threats associated with extra-regional forces stationed at military bases in countries surrounding Iran.

The mobile surface-to-air missile system is mounted on military truck chassis and operates in conjunction with Sayyad-3 missiles. Target detection and tracking are conducted using a rotating slab-shaped passive electronically scanned array radar. Launch vehicles carry a rotating rectangular assembly containing four missile canisters arranged in two rows of two, with operational firing utilizing one row of two canisters. The system is designed to detect, intercept, and destroy fighter aircraft, unmanned combat aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and stealth targets. The system's radar and tracking configuration permits the simultaneous engagement of six targets.

The system is in service with the armed forces of Iran. In October 2024, during strikes on Iranian territory, the Israeli military released video footage showing an engagement against a Khordad 15 air-defense system located near Bandar Mahshahr in Khuzestan province.
