Western Naval Base (Західна військово-морська база)

Western Naval Base is the main naval base of the Ukrainian Navy, at Odesa on the north-west coast of the Black Sea.

Its resident formations are the 1st Guard and Patrol Division, the 30th Separate Surface Ship Division, the 28th Naval Auxiliary Division, the 31st Supply Ships Division and the 22nd Separate Radio and Engineering Company. Between them they cover the base's patrol and surface combatant forces, its auxiliaries and supply ships, and its radio-technical and engineering support.

The site was a Soviet Navy base before it passed to Ukraine, and has been under Ukrainian command since 1994. It became the Ukrainian Navy's principal base in 2014, when the country ceased to operate the Southern Naval Base and the main base at Sevastopol.
