Description
BRP Magat Salamat (PS-20) was decommissioned on 10 December 2021 alongside sister ship BRP Miguel Malvar in a ceremony at Naval Base Heracleo Alano, ending the last two hulls of the locally designated Malvar-class patrol corvettes. Built as the Admirable-class minesweeper USS Gayety (AM-239) in 1943, the ship served with the Republic of Vietnam Navy as RVNS Chi Lang II before her 1976 transfer to the Philippine Navy. Within weeks of decommissioning, the hulk was repurposed as a temporary command post for typhoon relief operations in the Dinagat Islands before her eventual disposal.
