Description
The aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales suffered a shaft failure on 27 August 2022, just after sailing from Portsmouth for a transatlantic deployment, according to Maritime Executive and Navy Lookout. A dive inspection found that a coupling on the starboard propeller shaft had failed, damaging the shaft, propeller and, superficially, the rudder. The ship returned to Portsmouth, and HMS Queen Elizabeth took over the planned deployment. The carrier left Portsmouth on 8 October for dry dock at Rosyth to have the shaft repaired.
