Description
The Royal Thai Navy corvette HTMS Sukhothai sank late on 18 December 2022 in the Gulf of Thailand, about 20 nautical miles off Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Reuters reported. The ship, in service since 1987, was knocked over by waves of about four metres and strong winds after an engine malfunction and flooding. Reuters said 105 personnel were aboard, 76 had been rescued and 29 remained unaccounted for by 20 December. Baird Maritime later reported the death toll at 18 with 11 still missing. Sukhothai was a Ratanakosin-class corvette built in the United States.
