Description
Russia's Defence Ministry claimed on 31 May 2023 that the landing ship was destroyed on 29 May by precision weapons at the port of Odesa. Ukraine declined to confirm or deny the claim. Built in Gdansk, Poland, in 1970 for the Soviet Navy, the Polnocny-C-class medium landing ship had been captured at Berdyansk in February 2022 but was later spotted under Ukrainian control near Ochakiv. Analysts noted the ship had limited operational value given its age and condition.
