Description
Commissioned into the Ukrainian Navy on 2 July 2023 at a ceremony in Glasgow, alongside sister ship Chernihiv. Formerly HMS Shoreham (M112), the Sandown-class minehunter was donated by the United Kingdom as part of a maritime support initiative with Norway. Renamed Cherkasy after a Soviet-era minesweeper captured by Russia during the 2014 annexation of Crimea. Unable to transit to the Black Sea due to the Montreux Convention, both vessels are temporarily based at Portsmouth under a Babcock maintenance contract.
