Description
The Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel HMS Chiddingfold struck the Sandown-class minehunter HMS Bangor while moving astern at considerable speed in Bahrain on 19 January 2024, the UK Defence Journal reported from video of the incident. The Royal Navy confirmed the collision and said there were no casualties. Chiddingfold sustained less visible damage than Bangor, which was holed above the waterline. Forces News later reported that the two ships suffered an estimated £25 million of damage and that a wiring fault introduced during recent work on Chiddingfold was thought to have reversed her controls, an account that remained subject to the Navy's investigation.
