Description
The Sandown-class minehunter HMS Bangor was moored alongside in Bahrain with her gangway rigged when the Hunt-class HMS Chiddingfold reversed into her on 19 January 2024, the UK Defence Journal reported. The Royal Navy said nobody was hurt. Navy Lookout reported significant damage to Bangor's port side, with a large breach in the glass-reinforced plastic hull and distorted junior rates' mess and bunk spaces, though neither ship was holed below the waterline. Bangor was repaired in Bahrain, moving into dry dock later in 2024; Forces News put the combined damage to the two ships at about £25 million.
