Description
INS Sandhayak (J18), lead ship of the Indian Navy's Survey Vessel (Large) project, was commissioned on 3 February 2024 at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam in a ceremony presided over by the Defence Minister, The Hans India reported. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata with about 80 percent indigenous content, the 110-metre ship has a top speed of 18 knots. Her primary role is coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of ports, navigational channels and the exclusive economic zone, along with oceanographic data collection; she can also serve in search and rescue and as a hospital ship, the report said.
