Description
The retirement of the Type 23 frigate HMS Westminster (F237) was announced by the Defence Secretary at the annual Sea Power Conference in London on 14 May 2024, together with that of her sister HMS Argyll, the UK Defence Journal reported. The two ships had a combined 63 years of service. No out-of-service date was given and the disposal of the ship was not detailed. The announcement was framed alongside a pipeline of up to 28 ships and submarines being built or planned for the Royal Navy, and came as the Albion-class ships were then still expected to serve until 2033-2034.
