Description
The Defence Secretary announced on 14 May 2024, at the annual Sea Power Conference in London, that the Type 23 frigate HMS Argyll (F231) would be retired along with HMS Westminster, the UK Defence Journal reported. Argyll was sold to BAE Systems for use in apprentice training within the UK shipbuilding sector rather than being scrapped. The two frigates had 63 years of service between them. No out-of-service date was given. The announcement was framed alongside a pipeline of up to 28 ships and submarines being built or planned for the Royal Navy.
