Malaysia Navy KD Pendekar Sunk

The Handalan-class fast attack craft KD Pendekar sank two nautical miles south-east of Tanjung Penyusop, Johor, at 3:54 p.m. on 25 August 2024, the Royal Malaysian Navy said. According to the Navy, the vessel struck an underwater object around midday, causing a leak in the engine room and severe flooding that could not be controlled. All 39 crew members were rescued without injury with the help of nearby ships, the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Coast Guard, Naval News and The Star reported. The Navy convened a board of inquiry and gave priority to salvage. Commissioned in 1979, Pendekar was one of four Swedish-built Handalan-class missile boats.
