Ireland Navy LÉ Gobnait Commissioned

LÉ Gobnait was named and commissioned into the Irish Naval Service on 4 September 2024 during a ceremony at Haulbowline naval base, presided over by the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence. A Lake-class inshore patrol vessel acquired from the government of New Zealand on 13 March 2022, she replaced the decommissioned LÉ Ciara and requires a smaller crew of around 26. The vessel carries electronic warfare and intelligence-gathering systems and reached full operational capability following a work-up period that concluded on 15 November 2024.
