Description
INS Nirdeshak (J19), the second ship of the Indian Navy's Survey Vessel (Large) project, was commissioned on 18 December 2024 at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of State for Defence and hosted by the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, according to a Press Information Bureau release. The ship was built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata with more than 80 percent indigenous content, The Hindu reported ahead of the ceremony. She follows lead ship Sandhayak, commissioned in February 2024, in a class of four vessels intended for hydrographic and oceanographic survey work.
