Description
INS Surat was commissioned at Naval Dockyard Mumbai on 15 January 2025 alongside the frigate Nilgiri and the submarine Vaghsheer, in a triple ceremony presided over by the Prime Minister that the Indian Navy described as unprecedented. Surat is the fourth and final Visakhapatnam-class (Project 15B) guided-missile destroyer, built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders with about 75 percent indigenous content. Displacing 7,400 tonnes, she carries BrahMos anti-ship and Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles, an indigenous combat management system and rail-less helicopter traversing gear, and was delivered roughly four years faster than her lead ship.
