Description
The aircraft carrier collided with the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Besiktas-M at about 23:46 local time on 12 February 2025 while operating near Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean. The bulker's bow struck Truman's starboard quarter, piercing the hull above the waterline and damaging a sponson aft of the starboard aircraft elevator. There were no injuries or flooding, the propulsion plant remained stable and no aircraft were damaged. The carrier proceeded to Souda Bay for assessment and repairs, and her commanding officer was relieved of duty on 20 February.
