Description
The 5,000-tonne destroyer Choe Hyon (51) was presented to the Korean People's Navy at Nampo, on North Korea's west coast, on 25 April 2025, in a ceremony attended by Kim Jong Un and senior officers of the East and West Sea Fleets, Naval News reported. The ship received hull number 51 and her flag went to the East Sea Fleet commander; imagery showed first weapons tests on 28-29 April, according to the same report. Naval News later characterised the April 2025 ceremony as the vessel's delivery after construction rather than her entry into operational service, which came with her formal commissioning at Nampo in June 2026.
