Description
The second Choe Hyon-class destroyer capsized during its launching ceremony at the Chongjin shipyard on 21 May 2025 when, according to North Korean state media KCNA, the launching sled under the stern detached first and the hull was ruptured in places as the ship rolled onto its side. Satellite imagery published by The War Zone showed the destroyer lying on her starboard side across the slipway, partly covered by tarpaulins. The ship was righted and refloated in early June and relaunched on 5 June 2025, USNI News and CNN reported. Repaired and later named Kang Kon, she was commissioned at Wonsan in September 2026.
