Description
Former Royal Netherlands Navy minehunter HNLMS Vlaardingen (M863), transferred to Ukraine and renamed Melitopol during a joint ceremony at Zeebrugge naval base on 27 June 2025. Transferred alongside the Belgian BNS Narcis as part of a coordinated mine countermeasures support package. Built in 1984 as one of 15 Alkmaar-class (Tripartite) minehunters operated by the Dutch fleet, the 605-tonne ship features mine detection and neutralization systems including PAP 104 remotely operated vehicles. Named after the occupied Ukrainian city of Melitopol, the vessel enhances Ukraine's capability for clearing mine contamination in the Black Sea.
