Description
INS Tamal was commissioned into the Indian Navy at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad on 1 July 2025, the eighth Talwar-class (Project 11356) frigate and the second of two built in Russia under a 2018 agreement. Indian officials described her as the last warship the navy will induct from a foreign yard, with two further hulls of the class being completed at Goa Shipyard. Displacing about 3,900 tonnes, Tamal carries BrahMos anti-ship missiles, Shtil-1 surface-to-air missiles and a 100 mm gun, with roughly 26 percent indigenous content.
