Description

INS Nistar was commissioned at Visakhapatnam on 18 July 2025, the first indigenously designed and built diving support vessel for the Indian Navy. Constructed by Hindustan Shipyard, the 118-metre, 9,350-tonne ship supports deep-sea saturation diving to 300 metres and acts as the mothership for the navy's deep submergence rescue vehicle, giving India a sovereign submarine rescue capability. She carries side divers, a remotely operated vehicle and a hyperbaric medical complex. Her predecessor of the same name served as a submarine rescue vessel from 1971 to 1989.
