Description
Indonesia's Ministry of Defence signed a contract with the Turkish shipbuilding group TAIS, with PT PAL participating, for two Istif-class (I-class) frigates on 26 July 2025 during the IDEF 2025 exhibition in Istanbul, Naval News reported, the first export of MILGEM-derived ships to Indonesia. The frigates are to be built in Turkey, with the possibility of direct transfer from Turkish production rather than local construction. The 113.2-metre, 3,000-tonne design exceeds 29 knots, has a range of 5,700 nautical miles at 14 knots and is armed with a 16-cell MIDLAS vertical launcher for Hisar missiles, Atmaca anti-ship missiles, a 76 mm gun and torpedoes, according to the same report.
