Romania Navy Căpitan Constantin Dumitrescu Commissioned

The former HMS Pembroke was commissioned into the Romanian Naval Forces as Căpitan Constantin Dumitrescu (M217) at Babcock's Rosyth yard in Scotland on 4 August 2025, the second ex-Royal Navy Sandown-class minehunter transferred to Romania. The 52-metre, 600-tonne glass-reinforced plastic hull carries a variable-depth sonar and remotely operated mine disposal vehicles. The transfers followed a 2024 agreement and are intended to strengthen mine countermeasures capacity in the Black Sea, where drifting mines have threatened shipping since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
