Description
INS Udaygiri was commissioned at Visakhapatnam on 26 August 2025 in a joint ceremony with her sister ship Himgiri, the first time the Indian Navy commissioned two major warships built at different yards on the same day. Built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, she is the second Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate. The 6,670-tonne design carries BrahMos anti-ship missiles, Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles and a 76 mm gun, with about 75 percent indigenous content. Both ships were assigned to the Eastern Fleet.
