Description
INS Himgiri was commissioned at Visakhapatnam on 26 August 2025 alongside Udaygiri, having been delivered by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers at Kolkata earlier the same month. She is the third Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate and the first of the class built outside Mazagon Dock. The joint ceremony demonstrated parallel production across two yards, a model the Indian Navy adopted to accelerate the seven-ship programme. Both frigates joined the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam and carry BrahMos and Barak-8 missile systems.
