Description
The Portuguese Navy ordered the decommissioning and scrapping of the corvette NRP António Enes (F471) in September 2025, citing a lack of spare parts, insufficient crew and high maintenance costs to keep the 1971-commissioned vessel seaworthy, according to Diário de Notícias. Built by Bazán in Spain and commissioned on 18 June 1971, António Enes was the last serving unit of the six-ship João Coutinho class, sister ships having been decommissioned since 2014 and one lost at moorings in 2022. Her withdrawal ends more than half a century of service by the class in the Portuguese Navy.
