Description
The command and weapons test ship ROCS Kao Hsiung (LCC-1) was decommissioned at Hsinbin Pier in Kaohsiung harbour on 25 February 2026, the Liberty Times and United Daily News reported. Launched in March 1944 as the U.S. Navy landing ship LST-735, she took part in the Saipan and Okinawa campaigns and the Korean War before transfer to Taiwan in 1957, and was renamed Kao Hsiung in 1961 as the first Taiwanese warship named after a Taiwanese city. From 2017 she served as a trials platform for the Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, testing missiles, vertical launchers and radars.
