Description
Third Invincible-class (Type 218SG) diesel-electric submarine, delivered to the Republic of Singapore Navy at RSS Singapura – Changi Naval Base on 9 April 2026. Launched at ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems' Kiel shipyard in Germany on 13 December 2022, Illustrious is custom-built for operations in Singapore's shallow and congested tropical waters, featuring high levels of automation and enhanced underwater endurance. The first two boats, RSS Invincible and RSS Impeccable, were commissioned in September 2024. Three more submarines remain on order under two contracts signed in 2013 and 2017, bringing the planned fleet to six boats.
