Description
Sixth Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate delivered to the Indian Navy by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) at Mumbai on 30 April 2026. Yard number 12654, this is the fourth P17A vessel built at MDSL and the sixth delivered within 17 months of the lead ship INS Nilgiri (commissioned December 2024). The 6,700-tonne frigate features stealth shaping, indigenous DMR 249A steel hull, and CODOG propulsion. Armament includes 32 Barak-8 SAMs, 8 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, a 76 mm Oto Melara gun, AK-630 CIWS, and lightweight ASW torpedoes. Indigenous content reaches 75%.
