Description
HMAS Eyre was commissioned at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia on 30 May 2026, the second of six planned Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels to enter Royal Australian Navy service after sister ship HMAS Arafura in 2025. The 80-metre vessel was built by Civmec Defence Industries at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia to a Luerssen OPV 80 design. Displacing about 1,640 tonnes with a range of 4,000 nautical miles, the class replaces the Armidale-class patrol boats and is intended as a flexible platform for constabulary patrol, border protection and regional engagement tasks.
