Turkey Navy ex-TCG Sokullu Mehmet Paşa Sunk

The decommissioned tender ex-TCG Sokullu Mehmet Paşa was sunk as a target in the Eastern Mediterranean on 11 June 2026 by an indigenous AKYA heavyweight torpedo fired by the Preveze-class submarine TCG Sakarya during the Denizkurdu-II 2026 exercise, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced in footage reported by Naval News. The hit broke the hulk in two; Naval News noted it was the first AKYA firing through the MÜREN combat management system. The former German Rhein-class tender Isar had served for decades as a cadet training ship and a NATO mine countermeasures command ship; the sinking removed no hull from the current fleet.
