Commissioned at Karwar naval base on 22 July 2026 in a ceremony presided over by the Chief of the Air Staff, with the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command in attendance. Malvan is the second of eight Mahe-class anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft built by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi, and the sixth of sixteen such vessels planned for the Indian Navy across the Mahe and Arnala classes, all expected to be commissioned by 2028. The 78-metre, roughly 900-tonne craft reaches 25 knots with an endurance of 1,800 nautical miles and over 80 percent indigenous content. The vessel was delivered on 31 March 2026 and replaces the aging Abhay-class corvettes in coastal anti-submarine duties.
