The defence ministries of Israel and Cyprus signed an agreement on 26 October 2026 for a new offshore patrol vessel for the Cyprus Navy, to be built by Israel Shipyards and fitted with Rafael naval systems, according to an Israeli Ministry of Defense statement reported by Naval News. The package also covers systems upgrades aboard the existing patrol vessel Commodore Andreas Ioannides (P61). Cypriot newspaper Phileleftheros reported that the new ship would be a second Saar 62-class vessel, with delivery expected by mid-2028, and Israeli business daily Globes put the package at about €150 million, according to Baird Maritime. Commissioned in January 2018, Commodore Andreas Ioannides is a 62-metre, 430-tonne OPV armed with two Rafael Typhoon weapon stations.
